Lockton lies approximately ¾ mile from its sister village of Levisham on the edge of the moors and dates back to the Domesday Book.

The Area: Lots to do and see

  • 15 minutes drive from the famous “Heartbeat” village of Goathland
  • On the doorstep of Dalby Forest. Here there's something to suit all ages and abilities, from a wide choice of challenging mountain bike trails to gentle woodland wanders, fun family events to forest yoga classes.
  • 500 miles of tracks and footpaths on your doorstep to suit ramblers, horse riders and cyclists.
  • Stunning scenery; nearby Levisham Estate offers some of the most outstanding and varied scenery, from Newtondale Gorge with its sheer cliffs to breathtaking views from the heather clad tops which lie 1,200 feet above sea level.
  • The North York Moors Steam Railway starts at Pickering and passes through Levisham, then along the stunning Newtondale Gorge to Goathland and Grosmont with some trains now going right to Whitby on the coast.
  • Historic York, Fountains Abbey, Helmsley, Scarborough, Robin Hood's Bay and Bridlington are all within easy reach.
